WERNER FRIESE (*1927 Germany, †2020 Germany)
Werner Freise dedicated himself intensively to painting throughout his life. During his artistic career, the artist specialized particularly in acrylic and watercolor techniques. In 1946, he commenced his training as a graphic designer at the Webels printing press in Essen, simultaneously attending evening courses at the Folkwang University of the Arts. This creative profession aligned closely with his aspiration to become a painter. Simultaneously, he delved deeply into photography and, in the 1950s, created an impressive photo series documenting the Ruhr region, which became a historical testament. The black and white photographs provide insight into the post-war years of Essen, Bochum, and Oberhausen, showcasing architectural buildings, industry, workplaces, and events that shaped communal life. It serves as a visual chronicle of the Ruhr region in Germany.
